I am reading the news less and less, although I have some news "filters", in the form of subscriptions. I am focusing on prices and volumes and sentiment as disclosed by what investors actually are doing. Considering that this October has the greatest US stock market gains to date of any modern October, market sentiment has remained very negative which, contrariwise, is bullish. Only today do I see any sign of positive sentiment conversion. Volume, however, remains more than adequate to maintain price without low volume spikes in price. Keep in mind that frequent small pullbacks are healthy, like breathing in and breathing out.
You know my conception of the fundamentals: that we have been in a long term inflationary bull move since 1999-2003 that was only interupted by the Lehman liquidity crash. Central banks and goverments did not take credit for inflation before 2008, but now they must have it, in their own minds, and have done everything they can and will do more to assure inflation happens. And it will happen! And they will smile and take the credit for it. It's a child's game they are playing, as they are unaware of historic cycles and think themselves all powerful. Never mind whether this is a good or a bad thing. It simply "IS" and will be, so we must accept what is and invest accordingly. Stocks and many growth substitutes will be rising for a long time.
Because of my age and living on my money, I have to maintain a fairly conservative short term income bias in my portfolio as I have discussed so many times. But physical gold is 1/6th of my overall funds and another 1/6th is in growth stocks of various types. They are key to survival in the inflationary boom that's inevitable. If you are new to this site, go back and read the posts I've made during the past six months or so. Diversification in the spirit of Harry Browne, a Ron Paul precursor in the investment world, is crucial, but should be done thoughtfully. Don't be angry about current events. Protect your family and yourself in your investing and in life in general. None of us is here on Earth a very long time, so we must take what exists and make the best of it while we're here. We must make a good life out of what we see and experience. Any other approach is wasteful of our time on Earth. Enjoy.
